Zion Sunday School INFORMATION

ZSS Children Serve...

"Those who are kind to the needy honor their Maker."  --Proverbs 14:31

World Vision Sponsorship: ZSS children monitarily and prayerfully support our young friend, Jefferson, in El Salvador.

Stewart Avenue Food Pantry: ZSS children support local needs through their weekly donations to the Stewart Avenue Food Pantry.

Placemats: Throughout the year, ZSS children beautifully decorate disposible placemats for nursing home patients suffering from Alzheimer's Disease/dementia for use as a memory triggering tool.

ZSS Children Study...

Curriculum:  This semester's curriculum from David C. Cook focuses on a Savior being born!  Older children also explore how God gives us power and how to follow Paul's example while the younger children look at growing up and the amazing things that Jesus did.

Memory focus:  We focus on memorizing, through song, the books of the Old and New Testaments.

7-12th Grade Coffeehouse:  Older youth can join John Thatcher and Jamie Carr in the 3rd floor youth room for a coffehouse and conversation based on John's Gospel.

Adult Education Classes/Opportunities
Like newborn babies you should earnestly desire the pure spiritual milk
of the Word, that by it you may be nurtured and grow into salvation.  --1 Peter 2:2

New Members Class-Pastor Riesen will be offering a new member class beginning in February. Those wishing to join Zion's congregation will be meeting on Wednesday evenings over the Meager Meal dinner which begins at 5:30 in Fellowship Hall. If you have been attending Zion and would like to become a member, please call the church office at 412-881-5512. Thank you.

Genesis II--Pastor Riesen reprises his Genesis class in the Library with  a second edition.  This study of the incredible book of Genesis is about God and greed and grace; about life, laughter and loneliness.  It is about birth, beginnings and betrayal; about siblings squabbles and sex; and about power, prayer, prison and passion!  Whew!  Where's the sign-up sheet?

Men's Bible Study--The Gospel of Mark--Join the men of Zion in the balcony classroom as they explore the life of Jesus...his radical lifestyle, his conflicts with "religious people," his values and message.

Christianity or Cult-Keith Kirchartz leads a study on Mormons, Jehovah's Withnesses, Seventh-Day Adventists, Christian Science--they seem to be Christian, but do they really teach the faith of our fathers?  Class will meet in the Stephen Ministry parlor on the third floor.

First Communion

Parents are asked to accompany their children during the 2nd semester of First Communion preparation.  Class will meet during the Sunday School hour in the Heritage Chapel beginning in January.

Students will receive their 1st Communion on Sunday, May 6, 2012 during the 11:00 service.

Zion's First Communion curriculum is offered to children entering the third grade or older children who have not previously completed their preparation for receiving communion.

Note to Parents of Children 5 & Under

Zion has a nursery adjacent to Fellowship hall for your convenience. The nursery is lovingly supervised by our nursery staff and volunteers for the Saturday evening and Sunday 9:30am service. If you choose not to use the Nursery, but during the worhsip service your child becomes fussy or is crying, please feel free to go to the Narthex or down to the Nursery with your child.

Zion Kid's Activity Bags

The Activity Bags for our young children are located in the Narthex. Each week we place a coloring sheet depicting the sermon theme.

Parents: It is important that the used papers are taken home and the paper, pencil, and crayons are placed back in the bags and returned to the Narthex so they can be ready to use the following week. Thank you.
