The North American Lutheran Church (NALC)

On August 11 and 12 Pastor Riesen, John Dodson, Vicky Thatcher and Diane DeBor attended the 2011 NALC Convocation in Columbus, OH.  It was an interesting and exciting two days that ended with the installation of our new Bishop, the Rev. John Bradosky.  In addition the Executive Council was elected.  The Executive Council is made up on four clergy and four lay positions.

Clergy representatives are the Rev. Victor C. Langford, III (WA), Rev. N. Amanda Grimmer (PA), Rev. Regecca Heber (FL), and Rev. Bradley Hales (VA).

Lay representatives are Dr. James L. Hansen (WV), Carol Lattier (TX), Kay Weaver (NC) and Ryan Schwarz (Washington, DC).

Three Partner Ministries were introduced that will provide resources and support to congregations of the NALC: Solo Publishing/Pastor Steven King, World Mission Prayer League/Pastor Charles Lindquist and Youth Encounter/Pastor Larry Johnson.

The Director of the Evangelical Lutheran Mission Society, Pastor Buba, introduced the first two mission couples of the NALC: Pastor Diedone Panzo and his wife will be serving in Equador; and Professor James Nestigen and his wife will be serving in Ethiopia.  Memberships are available to support the Mission Society and are $240/year for an individual membership and $1,000/year for a congregational membership.

A Full Communion Agreement with the Ethiopin Mekane Yesus Church was passed at the Convocation and will need to be ratified by 2/3 of the NALC congregations at their Annual Congregational Meetings.

Several amendments were made to the Provisional Constitution and a formal Constitution was adopted.

A 2012 Budget of $970,000 was passed.

HAHN Financial Group will provide the Health and Pension Plan.

The Executive Council will develop a plan for geographical subdivisions to be known as "Mission Districts."

A Statement on Ecumenism was passed.

The Women of the NALC (WNALC) was officially formed.  An Executive Council was elected and a Provisional Constitution was adopted.
