IS GOD CALLING YOU TO LEAD WORSHIP AT CAMBRIDGE?

There is a wonderful ministry opportunity in Zion's backyard!  For the past several years, there has been an informal worship service at the Cambridge Personal Care Facility (formerly Hearthstone Manor) on Sunday mornings.  This is the ONLY Sunday worship service that is available to the residents. The service presently consists of prayer, Scripture readings and hymns.

The couple that now leads the service has moved and will be ending their participation at the end of April.  The service currently begins at 11:15 AM but the time may be changed to meet the leaders' schedule.  Depending on the response, the service could be led by an individual, a couple or on a rotating schedule if there are enough volunteers.  The Scripture readings, music and song sheets would be provided.

This ministry is absolutely vital to the participants at Cambridge.  The residents are truly thankful for the opportunity to continue to worship the Lord on Sundays even though they can no longer attend their home church. There isn't a week that goes by that the residents don't express their appreciation to the worship leaders.

If you are interested or just curious about the worship at Cambridge, the couple currently leading the service would welcome observers.  If you have a heart for older people, this ministry is for you!

Please contact the Church Office as soon as possible at 412-881-5512 for further details.

ZION BUILDS!

We are looking for a few volunteers to build work with other Lutherans to build a “Lutheran Home.” If you have one morning a week that you can strap on a tool belt, this may be just for you! In cooperation with Habitat for Humanity and Thrivent we have available 90% of the cost of a home. Habitat is not a hand-out program. The families must pay the money back and must put 375 hours into home construction. It is for working families with children who need a decent home. It’s a hand-up!   Please join us!   You don't have to work the entire day--any time you can give would be greatly appreciated!   If you can't help physically, but would like to contribute monetarily, that is also greatly appreciated and needed.

To learn more, please call LuAnn Munsky at 724-348-8704 or Brandon Miles at 412-220-8103.

ALTAR GUILD

Did you ever wonder how the altars in the sanctuary and in the Heritage Chapel are dressed? When you enter the sanctuary for any service and see the altar dressed for communion, did you ever wonder how it gets there? No, Zion doesn't have a team of magical elves that suddenly appear when everyone has gone. Zion has six teams of dedicated ladies who come in every week to dress and prepare the altar for our services. When different seasons of the church occur, our ladies dress the altar, lectern, and pulpit with the season's color with what is called the paraments.

Zion is in need of more teams to help us with this important service to the Lord. Each team is usually made up of two people (No, they don't have to be women, men can participate, too!). Once trained, your team will take care of the altar and the paraments (when they need changed) in two-week rotations. It's not a time consuming commitment and you'll be surprised about how much you can learn about the church service and why we do the things we do. If you think you would be intested in learning more about this service or better yet, want to participate in this service, give Dani Richey a call at 412-881-4583.

ZION SUPPORTS THE STEWART AVENUE FOOD PANTRY

Zion is pleased to support the Food Pantry at Stewart Avenue Lutheran Church.  After all services the first weekend of each month, volunteers will be standing at the exits with plastic bags, which serve as a gentle reminder to bring non-perishable food items to church the next week.  Donations can be dropped off in the baskets under the table in the Narthex or under the coat rack next to the Heritage Chapel.  All non-perishable food items are welcome donations, but the clients at the Pantry especially appreciate cereal, tuna/salmon, peanut butter and jelly, packaged pasta and sauce, Campbell's soup, canned spaghetti, fruit and vegetables.  Food bags will be distributed the weekend of March 6 and 7 and we ask that you bring your donations the weekend of  March 13 and 14.  Each month, the Food Pantry helps more and more individuals who are unable to put food on the table for themselves or their families.  Your donations are GREATLY appreciated--every month more and more people in need are coming to the Food Pantry for assistance.  If you are interested in helping to distribute the reminder bags, please contact Lou or Vicki Flotta at 412-466-9108 or click here to complete the on-line opportunities form.  Remember--Hunger doesn't take a vacation for the summer!  Thank you for your support!

PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY

After our first organizational meeting, the group decided to meet every Monday evening from 7 to 8:30 PM in the Heritage Chapel.  Brochures are available in the Narthex for anyone who would like more information about making prayer shawls, or if you have a loved one in mind to receive a prayer shawl made by the Prayer Shawl Ministry.  The ministry is also accepting monetary donatins to purchase materials for the prayer shawls.  Newcomers are always welcome.  Please contact  Bonnie Gierlack (412-653-6132) or Terry Riesen (412-881-5512) for more information.

ZION DUBBERS--The Sermon Taping Ministry

Help us spread the Word!  Zion records the 11 AM Sunday Sermon (9:30 AM in the Summer), copies it onto CDs and makes them available in the Narthex after all services.  The CDs are a great way to keep the message with you during the week, and to share with those who need to be uplifted. Volunteers are needed to duplicate the sermons (Dubbers) and to sell the CDs (Sellers).   Duplicating the sermons is quick and easy, and we offer training.  Volunteers are put on a two-week rotating basis and the more volunteers we have, the fewer times you are needed on the schedule.  It's easy and it's fun!  If you would like to be a part of this ministry, please contact Vicki Flotta at 412-466-9108.  We are in special need of volunteers to volunteer at the CD table on Saturday evenings.  Please contact Vicki if you can help!  Thank you!

PRAYER CHAIN

Go to the Contact Us page and send an email indicating your interest in being added to the Prayer Chain receivers list, to receive weekly prayer requests.  Those who receive the Prayer Chain on a weekly basis commit to pray for the needs of those on the list on a daily basis.

BE A PART OF THE "FORGET-ME-NOT" MINISTRY

Help make our members who are homebound/not able to attend Zion on a regular basis continue to feel a part of our church family!  We are looking for adults who would like to brighten the lives of our "Forget Me Nots".  You can do this in several ways--by sending cards, making occasional phone calls, home visits and delivering cookies or items made specially for our homeboundmembers.  If you are interested in being a part of this meaningful ministry, please contact the Church Office at 412-881-5512.

BLOOD BANK VOLUNTEER

Zion provides volunteers to run the Canteen area at the Central Blood Bank donation center in the Manor Building on Baptist Road on the second Friday of each month.  If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Charlanne Ammon at 412-653-5189 or complete the Opportunities form.
