MEET SARAH RECK, YOUTH DIRECTOR

Sarah Reck is our Youth Director.  She has been an active member at Zion as well as at Lycoming College, where she was a United Campus Ministry Leader.  She holds a Master's Degree in Creative Writing from Chapman University in California.  Sarah has experience at the local, national and international level in youth ministry and we pray for her success at Zion and ask for God's guidance for your Ministry of Youth.  Welcome aboard, Sarah!  It's good to have you home!  The best way to contact Sarah is at sarah.zionyouth@gmail.com.  Or you can call her at 412-477-4966.  She looks forward to hearing from you!

MINISTRY OF YOUTH UPCOMING EVENTS

All events are for youth Confirmation Age and up unless otherwise specified.

• Breakfast Club and Bible Study--Meet at Caribou Coffee on Brownsville Road in Brentwood the first Saturday of the month at 10 AM!  Mark your calendars for March 6, and April 3, 2010.  See you there!
• Sunday, March 7 -- Wii Disney DDR Tournament from 2 to 4 PM -- Put your dancing skills to the test on Wii DDR.  There will be snacks and prizes!
• June 30-July 3 -- Creation Festival East -- Let's go to the nation's largest Christian music festival at Agape Farm, PA!  Hopefully we will be joining our friends at Zion Penn Hills for four days/three nights of camping, fellowship, worship and great music.  Families are welcomed and encouraged to attend!
• Summer 2010 Mission Trip--July 18-23, 2010 to Nashville, TN  --   For more information, please go to www.groupworkcamps.com/weekofhope.

CONFIRMATION NEWS

Confirmation Classes for students in grades 7-9 are held on Wednesdays from 6:45 to 8 PM!  The class is on break until Spring, but please note the following important dates:

• Saturday/Sunday, February 6/7 -- Confirmation Retreat cancelled due to inclement weather and will be rescheduled for May 1 and 2 at Jumonville
• Wednesday Lenten Worship Services at 7 PM on February 24, March 3, 10, 17 and 24
• Holy Week Services--Maundy Thursday Service on April 1 at 7 PM; Good Friday Service on April 2 at 7 PM and Easter Sunday Service on April 4 at 8 or 11 AM
• Wednesday, April 7 -- Confirmation Class resumes from 6:45 to 8 PM and continue through May 19.  Lenten Sermon Notes will be collected on Wednesday, April 7
• Saturday/Sunday, May 15/16 -- Statements of Faith given by ALL 9th grade confirmands at one of the three worship services.
• Sunday, May 23 -- Rite of Confirmation at the 11 AM Service

SUNDAY SCHOOL

Zion offers Youth Sunday School Classes at 9:30 AM for children ages 3 and 4 through 12th grade!  There's something for everyone!  Come, make new friends, and learn what God has to say to you in Sunday School! 

Over the coming months, Sunday School will be collecting items for the South Hills Interfaith Ministries (SHIM) Food Bank at Prospect Park.  There are many children who live there who are in need of the basics.  During the Sunday School offering, we will be collecting the following:

• Diapers (any size)
• Rice and Dried Beans
• Underwear and socks (for children and adults)

Through Sunday, January 31, Sunday School will also be collecting the following supplies for the earthquake victims in Haiti:

• Toothbrushes
• Toothpaste
• Combs
• Hair brushes
• Wash cloths
• BAR soap

BIBLE BOWL TEAM FINISHES IN SECOND PLACE!

We are proud of Zion's 2010 Bible Bowl Team--Tim Carr, Alice Evans, Steve Frable, Taylor Lawrence,  Doug Snyder, Katherine Snyder and Missy Wagner, who finished in Second Place at the Local Bible Bowl.  We wish our friends at Bethlehem Lutheran the best of luck as they advance to the next round of competition.

We thank everyone who prayed for these outstanding young people as they participated in an in-depth study of God's word.  For that alone, they are Winners!
